48 Hour Art Test 2 WIP

Admiring the works of industry veteran, Mr. Jordu Schell, I am attempting to take on (try my best) sculpting out "Amphibious."  His website can be viewed here: http://schellstudio.com/ This is what I have so far:

Say hello to my little friend! (WIP)

I was browsing the Internet for awesome concepts and stumbled upon Timur Mutsaev.  His website is AWESOME featuring some really impressive artwork and sketches dating back to the late 1980s and early 1990s.  Some of his more recent work includes concept art from Crysis 2!

The model I am working on now is based on Mr. Mutsaev's artwork seen here:

I am changing my workflow for this particular work moving from high poly to low.  Here is the beginning of my high poly rendered in Mental Ray (AO.)

Anatomy Study - The Arm!

After referencing in detail the works of Scott Spencer and Stephen Rogers Peck, I focused all my attention into the musculature of the arm.  I'm pretty happy with the result.

Anatomy Study Final

I appreciate everyone's feedback.  I smoothed down his lower abs because they're usually not so defined.  I defined his legs further (which I had barely touched in my WIP post.)  I smoothed down his traps as per William's suggestion and tried my best on his back.  I had a hard time getting that to look right.  It seemed every anatomy reference I looked up was slightly different.

Creature Bust WIP

This is an early sculpt based on a silhouette I created in the previous post.  I was mainly going for an interesting silhouette.  More detail will come much later.  Right now I need to focus on nailing down a background for this guy.  I imagine him serving as a hulking guardian of some abscure artifact on a distant planet.  I think he reminds me of a mix between a gorilla, a horse and an eagle.

I started with a base human head mesh in homes that I could continue with decent topology but as it turned out it looks terrible.  I'd like to learn TopoGun very soon to correct some of these issues.

Character Bust Silhouettes Evolved

I took one of the busts from my previous post and developed it a little more.  I didn't like the shape initially but after this set of bust sheets I'm liking him a lot better.  My character busts give off an elephant/ rhino sort of feel.  I imagine him being very brutish and strong, but passive if left alone.  I created a few with shaved off horns and I started drifting off into space wondering why he might have had them removed.  I can see a story might be in development with this creature.
